Cambridge, the number three ranked Class C team in the NYS Sportwriter Assn. poll in the state and now number two seed in the Class C state playoff brackets, defeated Hoosick Falls last Friday to advance to state sub-regional play on Tuesday evening, March 5. In that game the Indians defeated Madrid-Waddington of Section 10 to eliminate them for the second straight year. According to the NYSPHSAA schedule, they will now advance to regional play against Section 7 representative Moriah (Port Henry area, ranked #19 in the NYSSA poll) on Saturday, March 9, beginning at noon. The game will be at Beekmantown Central School. Beekmantown Central is located six miles north of Plattsburgh on Route 22. Semi-final and final round games are scheduled to be played at Hudson Valley Community College.

The semi-finals will be Friday, March 15, with the upper bracket playing at 1:30 pm and the lower bracket (Section 2 – Cambridge) beginning at 3:15 pm. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, beginning at 7 pm.

Tuesday, 3/5. Sectional final held at Shenendehowa High School. Madrid-Waddington stayed with the Cambridge Indians (22-1) for the the first few minutes of this game. The teams traded baskets until the game was tied at nine points each. From that point on, Cambridge dominated the game , outscoring M-W 31-5, to take a 40-14 lead at the half. The run stunned the Yellowjacket’s, winners of four straight Section 10 Class C championships, and they never threatened again.

Friday, 3/1. Sectional final held at Hudson Valley Community College. The #7 seeded Lady Panthers were the Cinderella team at this ball, defeating a #2 and #3 seed on their way to earning an invitation.
The Lady Panther team played great to stay with the Cambridge Lady Indians throughout this game. The Panthers were certain underdogs as Cambridge defeated the Panthers by 25 points earlier in the season. Hoosick Falls gave the Indians everything they had but came up just short.
Hoosick Falls led at the end of every quarter but the most important one, the fourth, when Cambridge used an 18 point burst, making 11 of 14 foul shots in the final four minutes, to take and keep the lead until the game came to an end.
Hoosick Falls kept this game close despite having 22 turnovers, while Cambridge only gave up the ball nine times.
Sophie Phillips, the only Cambridge player to score in double figures, led the way with 25 points. Logan Thayne had an excellent game for the Panthers, scoring 18 points and hauling in 17 rebounds. Senior Lillian Hickey scored 14 points, including scoring on four of nine three-point attempts.
