Cambridge Headed To State Finals Weekend at HVCC

March 9 at Beekmantown High School. The Cambridge Indians traveled Route 22 to just north of Plattsburgh to play the Moriah Vikings of Section 7. The Indians jumped out to a 12-0 lead after the opening tip and the Vikings could never overcome that. Cambridge outscored the Vikings in every quarter to get the win. After the half, Moriah scored first to get the Indians lead down to 26-19, but Lilly Phillips over the next two minutes scored the next ten Cambridge points to put a quick end to the Vikings hopes of taking a lead. Moriah closed in again with 1:38 left in the game to get within seven, but Cambridge scored the next six points of the game to secure the victory.

Lilly Phillips scored 22 points, Sophie Phillips scored 18, Stacia Epler scored 11, with nine of those points coming on three-pointers.
The win sends the Indians to Hudson Valley Community College for Championship Weekend for the final four. The Class C finalists begin semifinal play on Friday, March 15, beginning at 1:30 pm with Section 4’s Watkins Glen playing Section 9’s Millbrook. In the New York State Sportwriters Association March 6 poll, Millbrook (17-1) was ranked #1 and Watkins Glen (19-4) was #7.
Following that game, Section 2’s Cambridge faces Section 6’s Maple Grove with a scheduled 3:15 pm start time. Maple Grove defeated Oakfield-Alabama, 44-38, to reach this semifinal contest, the first time in the Red Dragons history of being a final four contestant.
In the NYSSA poll, Cambridge (23-1) is ranked #2 while Maple Grove (19-3) is ranked #6.
Cambridge was defeated by Millbrook, 64-52, in the 2018 state semifinals game.

Hoosick Falls Lady Panthers (14-10) moved into the March 6 NYSSA poll for the first time all season at the #15 spot. They are the only team with more than 5 losses in the NYS top 20 poll. The ranking reflects the Panthers playing excellent ball in the final weeks of the season. Four other Section 2 teams are in the poll. Cambridge (#2), Maple Hill (#19), Warrensburg and Lake George tied at #20. Section 2 has more teams in the top 20 than any other section.
The Lake George boys basketball (26-0) heads to Binghampton for Class C Final Four play after defeating Moriah (17-7), 54-46. After being down 28-21 at the half, Lake George outscored the Vikings 33-18 over the final 16 minutes to get the win.
The NYSSA boys basketball polls shows the undefeated Lake George in the #1 spot. Hoosick Falls shows up in the #5 spot, Other Section 2 teams in the poll are Maple Hill (#14), and Mayfield (#18). Section 2, with four, has more teams in the top 20 than any other section.
