Flames broke out at the Sheridan family home at 69 River Road around 6:30 am on Sunday morning, March 9. All the family members, two adults and two children, were able to escape the flames without injury, though sadly, several family pets perished in the blaze.

Petersburgh Fire Chief Mike Lindsey told the Eastwick Press, when Assistant Chief Mark Murray arrived at the scene, “flames were already blowing out the windows.” Chief Lindsey said they were able to knock the majority of the fire down very quickly, but the roof, which contained several layers, was very difficult to extinguish. In fact, the department was called back to the structure twice to deal with rekindling flames.
Besides the Petersburgh Fire Department, firefighters from Hoosick, Hoosick Falls, Pittstown, Grafton, Berlin, Stephentown, Eagle Mills and Pownal, Vermont were also called to the scene or on stand by.
Chief Lindsey said while the official cause of the blaze is still under investigation, it appears to be accidental.
