Smile, You Are On Berlin’s Cameras
By Doug La Rocque
With all the issues the Berlin Town Board has had to deal with the past year, no one seemed to mind that the Thursday, April 11 meeting went very quickly with no major issues to tackle. One point that Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger brought out was that all the newly installed cameras around the Municipal Complex and the Berlin-Petersburgh Transfer Station were fully operational and watching 24 hours a day. This is particularly important at the transfer station, where lead attendant Bud Hall said they have had several instances of people sneaking in to dump whatever, when the station is closed. Now, big brother is watching.
The Board did approve the Water District 2 billing for the second and third quarters of the year, and Supervisor Jaeger said Wel-Dun, the company hired to administer Water District 1, is ready to open it up for the season. Highway Superintendent Jim Winn reported the new state budget has discontinued the Winter Recovery program, which he estimates, will cost the Town Highway Department about $25,000. Otherwise, he said his Department is preparing for summer roadwork. The gravel bid was awarded to the Hammersmith Gravel Mine Company of Berlin at the Board’s March workshop meeting.
Town Clerk Anne Maxon reported local, county and state revenues of $4,907 and non-local collections of $754 for the month of March.
