According to articles in the Troy Times newspaper this cabin which is adjacent to the Dickinson Fire Observation Tower was built in 1928 at the request of William Klaus. He was the fire observer at the tower before Helen Ellett. Klaus lived a mile and half from the tower and wanted a place to stay when he needed to be there.

In 1929 the fireplace was added. Helen is seen sitting on the steps. She often stayed at the cabin during periods of high danger or when the weather was bad. The cabin is no longer standing.
