Spring Sounds
This wood frog (Rana sylvatica) was photographed in Petersburgh this week when it visited a vernal pool after spending the winter under leaves. The male frog’s sound is like a quack and is only heard during the spring breeding season.
The frogs measure two to three inches with the females larger than the males. If you see one in the woods during the summer, they will look different–the frog will be lighter in color and have a darker eye patch.
