3rd Annual Night of the Arts at BCS

June 8, 2019 By steve bradley

By Amy Modesti

It was the calm before the thunderstorm as students, families, and residents attended the third Annual Night of the Arts held at Berlin Middle/High School put on by the MS/HS Art Department, Mrs.Colbert and Mrs. Wallace. This year’s community event included the annual student art exhibit of grades 6-12, a student photography raffle, best in show competition, wall mural unveiling and ribbon cutting, and the National Art Honor Society Induction Ceremony. Later in the evening there was also a music recital, accompanied by Jennifer Lopez and coordinated by the MS/HS Music Department, Miss Eliashuk and Mrs. Gould.

The student exhibition was held in two rooms; the main corridor and the art, music, and technology wing, where the wall mural unveiling and ribbon cutting took place. Visitors viewed student work in various mediums including graphic design, digital photography, pottery, ceramics, sculpture and portraiture painting. Alberto Giacometti inspired figurine sculptures, drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media were presented at the start of the evening.

Eighteen new inductees and twenty-one graduating seniors were inducted in this year’s National Art Honor Society. Forty-three students total are now a part of the society this year.

The Berlin Middle/High School participates in this honor society annually to afford acclaim to the students who have achieved great success in school, and community work through the arts.

Apart from the Honor Society induction, the winners of the student photography raffle were handpicked by members of the Honor Society, faculty and staff and the winners of the “Best in Show” were announced.

Students, families, and guests then flooded into the art, music, and technology wing to watch the reveal of the newly painted wall mural along the corridor. The painted mural, completed and designed by students and faculty this year, took two years to complete. The mural highlights the high school’s visual arts, technology and engineering, music, theatre, and dance departments through portraying bits of historical and artistic references.

“Night of the Arts” The Student Art Exhibit concluded Monday, June 3. Congratulations to all students that were inducted into the 2019 National Art Honor Society and for producing great visual art and entertaining the audience with live music at this year’s “Night of the Arts.”
