Cheney Library Events

June 13, 2019 By steve bradley

Cheney Library has exciting events planned for the month of June.

First and foremost, our Multipurpose Room is officially set for movie showings. We have four matinees scheduled for this month, all beginning at 1 pm. Bring-your-own snacks are welcome, and children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Our June movie schedule is available on our website: www.cheneylibrary.org.

Some of the gardening books available at the Cheney Library.

On Saturday, June 22, Cheney Library and Second Chance Animal Shelter will be holding a pet adoption event from 9 am to 1 pm at the library. Join us to meet and greet some fuzzy friends–or bring home your newest family member!

Tuesday, June 25 will be the date of our third career workshop, “Interviews that Get the Job.” During this event, Pamela Cross will offer her professional expertise to assist job-seekers in preparing for successful interviews. An informational presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer session, plus the opportunity to schedule individual sessions for one-on-one assistance. This workshop will be held in our downstairs Multipurpose Room from 1 to 2 pm.

Finally, Friday, June 28 will be the date of our Summer Reading Sign-Up Party for patrons in grades K-8. Register for our Summer Reading Program, eat free pizza, watch some movies, and hang out with friends. The party will begin at Noon and continue through our regular library hours.

On display in the library this month are books for both aspiring and experienced gardeners. Come check out one of our many guides for mulching, planting, and more. We are also celebrating Pride Month in our Young Adult corner with books highlighting experiences from the LGBTQ community. Please come and check some out!

Looking for a fresh read? Some new adult fiction books for the month of June include The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, The Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna by Juliet Grames, Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips, Miracle Creek by Angie Kim, and The Farm by Joanne Ramos. We also have some new Juvenile Nonfiction titles, including Dinosaur! : Dinosaurs and Other Amazing Prehistoric Creatures as You’ve Never Seen Them Before by John Woodward and Kitchen Science Lab for Kids: 52 Family Friendly Experiments from Around the House by Liz Lee Heinecke. Additional Juvenile Nonfiction books are to come.

Our Multipurpose Room is also always stocked with books for sale. Please feel free to come and peruse our selection at any time!

For any additional information about events or programming, please contact Library Director Sara Yetto at 518-686-9401, or by email director@cheneylibrary.org.
