Adding A Carwash To Carbone

By Doug La Rocque

Unlike many of the previous Brunswick Planning Board meetings, where at least one new proposed housing development facing various levels of public opposition, has been on the agenda, the Thursday, August 15 session lacked that element of contention.  Instead, some lot line adjustments to the Oakwood Properties Apartment complex were approved, as well as a minor three-lot subdivision.

New to the board’s list of items to consider, is a proposed site plan modification for the Carbone Subaru dealership on Hoosick Road (NYS Route 7).  The owners are asking permission to build a carwash on the site.  That prompted several questions from the board, such as will it be for public use, or only for cars on their lot and those coming through service.

Parking is already an issue there, with many vehicles located off the pavement already. Also brought up for discussion was the water for the wash.  Would it be recycled, or come from the Brunswick water supply with each use. The planners asked the dealership to return to the next meeting, September 5, with some answers

Less Of A Footprint,

But Just As Much Juice

Borrego Solar is proposing a commercial solar development on 50 acres located on Dusenberry Lane, but came back before the Board that night to explain they have run into some topography problems it had not anticipated.  The lay of the land is not conducive to some of the height requirements for the solar panels, so the company has had to scale back to the actual useable acreage of about 27 acres.  According to the Borrego officials, this will not impact the actual electrical output of the facility.

A difference in this proposed site from the one currently under construction on Brick Church Road, is in the amount of poles to be used.  At the Brick Church site, some of the poles were replaced by a large box type structure, where the transmission equipment is housed at ground level.

A joint public hearing with the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals has been scheduled for the September 19 meeting.
