Karen McGovern Memorial Volleyball Tournament

On Saturday, September 7, the 20th Annual Karen McGovern Volleyball Tournament will be held at the Sandbar in Hoosick Falls. All funds raised will benefit the Karen and Molly McGovern Fund.

This annual request for support and a fun day of volleyball helps provide the much needed funds which are then distributed back to the community.  Recipients of the funds are neighbors who are battling life-threatening illnesses. The tournament typically raises over $13,000 through sponsorships, individual donations, volleyball fees, merchandise raffles and a 50/50 drawing.

Each year the Karen and Molly McGovern Committee honors a person or family within the community who is battling a life threatening illness.  The honoree is chosen because they hold the same qualities Karen McGovern herself personified throughout her struggle with cancer; courage, perseverance, and graciousness. This year’s recipient of the award is Dr. Marcus Martinez, Jr. who has supported the fund for many years. His spirit, compassion and care for others, has made our community strong.  It is the same community who is now hopeful for strength and perseverance that will guide Dr. Marcus Martinez to better health.  We are hopeful that he can continue caring for our neighbors and living a happy and healthy life.

There are no administrative costs in the running of this Charitable Fund and 100% of the funds go directly towards helping community members. The Karen and Molly McGovern Fund provides needed financial assistance to those individuals and/or families fighting life threatening illnesses. If you know of someone who may be in need, please email Pat Hayes at patriciakhayes@yahoo.com.    If you would like to make a donation in honor of Marcus Martinez, or support the fund, you may send donation to Karen and Molly McGovern Fund P.O. Box 132 Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.
