Celebrate!  Like You’re The Only Stephentown On Earth

By Doug La Rocque

For the third year, the festival that is known as “Celebrate Stephentown” highlighted all that “The Only Stephentown On Earth” has to offer and afforded residents and visitors alike a chance to feel good about the little town snuggled in the southeast corner of Rensselaer County. With more than 25 events spread out over 20 locations, there was a little of something for everyone to enjoy. A special feature this year was Rensselaer County’s second annual Farm Day Out, held at the Kinderhook Creek Farm owned by Larry and Heather Eckhardt. According to Larry, who also wears the hat of Town Supervisor, between 450 to 500 people stopped by the South Stephentown Road location to learn a little about a working farm, meet some farm animals close up, and of course, sample a little of Eckhardt’s famous corn.

As to the event itself, Mr. Eckhardt tells The Eastwick Press, “it’s very heartwarming to this town supervisor when a small group of people can succeed in such a noble and meaningful endeavor as Celebrate Stephentown.”

I am proud to call Stephentown my home, glad to have such wonderful neighbors and friends and most of all – blessed with individuals and organizations that work together for a wonderful event. Bravo, bravo to everyone.”

“Celebrate Stephentown” is the brainchild of Scott Menhinick, who along with co-organizer Jennifer Peabody, bring all the many facets of the event together. At its conclusion Mr. Menhinick had the following statement for the whole community. “We couldn’t be happier with how the weekend went. Great weather, large crowds at our events, lots of positive feedback and a wonderful sense of unity across our entire community. We’re so grateful to all the presenters, sponsors, volunteers and interested visitors who make it possible to produce a festival on this scale here in Stephentown. It really is a special place to live and enjoy.” After all, it is the only Stephentown on earth.
