This Pickerel Frog (Lithobates palustris) leaped when weeds in a Petersburgh lawn were pulled. Pickerels spend more time out of the water hunting insects than in it. They live in the Eastern United States and can be confused with the Leopard Frog, but the Pickerel’s spots are more square than round.

Pickerels have a skin secretion that is disagreeable to some predators. This frog was about three inches in length and probably a female as they are larger than males.
