Students Learn Computer Science

Submitted by Dawn Wetmore

Berlin High School has announced it is offering an Introduction to Computer Science course using Python programming language. Computer Science is a growing and challenging field that impacts many aspects of everyday life.  Computational thinking, algorithmic thinking and problem solving are aspects of computer science that provide an analytical backbone that is useful for every single student, in any career.

Cody Hunt, Brandon Rifenburg, Flavia Muller and Justin Hall are a few of the students at Berlin High School participating in the new Introduction to Computer Science course offered by Berlin’s Central Technology Education Teacher Dawn Wetmore. Photo by Dawn Wetmore.

Berlin High School Technology Education Teacher Dawn Wetmore applied to the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) program whose initiative seeks to expand access to high caliber preparatory courses, curricular resources and programs for schools and districts to help prepare and propel high school students forward in their pursuit of computer science education.

The program is an amazing opportunity for our students to be exposed to Computer Science at the High School level and serves as a testament to Berlin’s commitment to our student’s academic opportunities.
