New Highway Garage
The project has been plagued by delays, mostly involving the bidding process. It has also taken a little longer than the village anticipated to iron out all the last minute details, but Mayor Robert Allen says he hopes to see work on the new garage begin soon.
Woods Brook Buyout Program
According to Mayor Allen, several contracts have been signed, but the Village Board must still approve the State Environmental Quality Review paperwork, and the contracts must gain state approval, before the Village can close on the properties damaged by the July 1, 2017 flooding.
New Water Supply
Hoosick Falls is still waiting on the New York State study and recommendations for a new source of drinking water to replace the current PFOA contaminated wells. As he has said before, Mayor Allen continues to hang on the word “soon.”
The current GAC filtration system on the Village’s water supply is still leaking, and they are waiting on the firm of CT Male to finish repairs. The Mayor emphasized the leak is not impacting the water filtration system.
When it comes to waiting, the same word applies to the stack testing completed earlier this year at the Saint Gobain McCaffrey Street location. No word on the results yet from the Environmental Protection Agency.
A Big Thank You
The electrical problems that were caused by wires down on September 4, resulted in the threat of electrical fires for many homes along Nixon Street, and several evacuations. The Mayor wished to thank all the Village’s emergency services, as well as those from outside the Village, who responded to the call.
Honoring Ann Bornt
According to Deputy Mayor Bob Ryan, the Board has settled on the size, style and cost of a plaque to honor longtime Village Clerk Ann Bornt, who passed away while in office. What remains is to settle on whether a portion of the municipal building, or the entire building itself, will be named after Ms. Bornt, and the exact verbiage to go on the plaque.
There was also discussion as to a residential complaint about sidewalk damage caused by the Snow Street project. It has been currently covered over with asphalt, but the Trustees approved a resolution to repair the sidewalk next spring.
