New Leb 0 3 0 0 3   6

Saturday, September 7. New Lebanon Soccer Tournament Final.

When New Lebanon fell behind by two goals at the half to the Catskill Cats it appeared it would be a tough battle to pull out a win. Turned out it was exactly that.

New Lebanon defenders watch as the ball sails toward their goal in the New Lebanon soccer tournament finals on Saturday evening. After falling behind Catskill 2-0 at the half, New Lebanon regrouped and tied the game at 2 in the second half.

NL regrouped and in the opening minutes of the second half  Sydney Smith, with an assist from Emily Schafer, scored the first NL goal, giving the team some much-needed momentum. A few minutes later Emily Schafer added an unassisted goal of her own, tying the score.

With six minutes to play, Smith scored her second goal of the game and NL grabbed the lead. Catskill was rocked back on its heels but became determined to score at least a tying goal.

Using intense pressure on the New Lebanon defense for more than five minutes, the Cats scored with 20 seconds left in regulation, tying the game and sending it into overtime

After two overtime periods, the score remained tied at 3-3.

By rule, the game was decided by penalty kicks. New Lebanon outscored the Cats 3-2 to end the great game.

Brianna Shuhart had 18 saves in goal for New Lebanon
