Summer Ends On A Fair Note
By Doug La Rocque
Labor Day traditionally marks the end of summer, even though September often holds some more summer-like weather. The past two weeks have seen the three counties in The Eastwick Press coverage area hold the annual fairs, the Washington County Fair ending a week ago, and the Schaghticoke (Rensselaer) and Columbia County Fairs wrapping up on Labor Day. Besides the rides and carnival type shows, all three fairs feature a number of agricultural exhibits.

In Schaghticoke, it was the 200th anniversary of the fair, a time that called for a lot of special events, including the repeat of the highly successful dollar day when the gates opened on Wednesday, August 28.
Despite some very uncooperative weather on Monday, the Fair closed on a high note. Fair Manager Carly Reyna-Ostrander telling us “We had a wonderful fair – a great time celebrating the 200th. It was really touching to see how involved the exhibitors and vendors got with decorating and celebrating. The Trace Adkins concert was a success. The outpouring of support and excitement for the parade from the community, local towns and first responders was amazing!”
“I’ve already started mapping Fair 201 and can’t wait to do it again,” she added – a sentiment we wholeheartedly share!
