Monday, November 30, 1846: This morning at four o’clock I and Geo P. started with the two horse sleigh. We were to go to Canaan Four Corners to the rail road depot with my pork, some snow squally on the way and we got into a drift on the road near old Mr. Keeler’s and we shovelled out and turned round and came back and went by Whitings Pond on the Hudson Turnpike. I delivered my pork to Benj. Hall at the depot at eight o’clock this morning, five hogs, all weighing fifteen hundred and fourteen pounds, and said Hall paid me cash in hand for the whole at five dollars per cwt as he agreed, and I paid six pence per head for weighing my pork. We then took on five barrels of flour for Mr. M. Nichols and fetched up to Lebanon to his store and he paid me 12½ cts per barrel for fetching.
Tuesday, Dec 1: Today I took my two horse sleigh and went to Hancock Village, I called to Phineas Palmer’s shop and had a bolt made out of my iron to hold on my double whiffletree to my sleigh, for I broke the bolt yesterday going to Canaan. Said Palmer charged 12½ cts and today I carried Benj. Lord three bushels of turnips at 25 cts per and he paid me out of Charles Wheeler’s store. I bought one yard cotton velvet for a vest, forty cts, and one dozen buttons, six cts, two pencils, two cts, and three pounds sugar, 27 cts. This evening John F. and Sarah O. attended the first Dancing School on Pool Hill to Joseph Lord’s.
Wednesday: Today John F. took the cutter and carried Geo P. to Hoosic Falls to go to school and John stayed tonight with Geo P where Geo P is going to board to Mr. Ford’s. Today quite stormy, snow, hail, and rain.
Thursday: Tonight at daydown John F. returned from Hoosic. It rained.
Friday: I tended to chores and helped cut sausage meat off the bones and this afternoon I took my one horse wagon and carried my sausage meat and left to Lias Dike’s to be ground or chopped. On the way home I called to Gay’s store and got my Troy Budget.
Saturday: I carried Lias Dike a half bushel of turnips at 25 cts per bushel, which makes 68 cts worth of turnips I let said Dike have, and I got the sausage meat he chopped which was 80 pounds at one cent per. On this evening we filled our sausages.
