Joe Gerwin and Jeff St Gelais Become 4-time Champions

Semifinal Match, Peter Martin III / Kevin Weeden vs Joe Gerwin / Jeff St Gelais

This match was played straight up as both teams had combined handicaps of 9.  Hole one saw Jeff St Gelais save par with a 10-foot putt.  All players parred the tough hole 1.  Jeff and Joe both parred hole 2, with another 10-foot plus putt by Jeff.  They went 1 up.  Kevin and Jeff both parred hole 3, but Peter and Kevin added another stroke.  After hole 4 saw Kevin’s tee shot put him in trouble, the score was Jeff and Joe up 4 strokes.  Pete and Jeff both had nice pars on hole 5 as the hole was pushed.  Kevin and Pete made a move on the par 5 sixth hole with Pete’s birdie and Kevin’s par.  This cut the lead to 2 strokes.  Hole 7 was the turning point.  Joe sank a 15-foot downhill birdie while his partner, Jeff, once again sank a 10-footer for par.  Kevin and Pete had par, bogey, but lost 2 strokes to go down 4.  Hole 8 saw all pars.  Kevin and Pete needed some help on hole 9, but didn’t get it.  A par, bogey for Joe and Jeff was enough.  Final stats:  Joe shot 37 with 4 pars and a birdie.  Jeff shot 37 with 7 pars.  Jeff and Joe made 5 putts beyond 10 feet.  The Pros only make half of their 10 footers.  This was their best combined score of the year, 4 over par.  This was 5 under their handicap.  Kevin finished with a 39 and 7 pars.  Peter also shot 39 with 4 pars and a birdie.  This was one under their handicap, but not enough.  Joe and Jeff won flight A.

Semifinal Match, Art English / Darrin Sedgwick

vs Gerry Taber / Dave Clark

Gerry and Dave were getting one stroke 17 vs 16 team handicap.  The first hole saw Gerry and Dave take a 4 stroke lead with their 2 bogeys.  After 2 pars on hole 2, they were now up 5 strokes.  Darrin’s par on hole 3 helped cut the lead to 1.  Art had a nice par on the #1 handicapped hole #4.  The match was still at 1 stroke.  Gerry had par and Dave had a bogey on hole #5 to increase their lead back to 4 strokes.  Gerry’s birdie on hole #6 made the lead 6 strokes with 3 to play.  Two more pars by Gerry and Dave had the lead to 7.  Art and Darrin fired back with 2 pars on hole 8, but it wasn’t enough.  Up 6 with hole 9 to play, Gerry finished with a par and Dave a bogey to win convincingly by 6 strokes.  Final stats:  Art shot 43 with 4 pars.  Darrin shot 45 with 3 pars.  Gerry fired in a 39 with 5 pars and a birdie.  Dave was solid at 44 with 2 pars.  Gerry and Dave were the flight B winners.

Championship Match, Jeff St Gelais / Joe Gerwin (9) vs Gerry Taber / Dave Clark (17)

Joe and Jeff were giving 8 strokes.  Joe’s par on hole 1 cut 3 strokes off the difference.  Gerry and Dave both parred hole #2 to get 2 strokes back.  A par by Joe and Dave on hole #3 kept the lead at 7 strokes.  Jeff’s par on hole 4 cut the lead to 5.  Hole 5 saw a 5 stroke swing with Jeff getting another par and Joe bogeying the hole.  The lead was gone.  Joe, Jeff and Dave all parred hole #6 to go 1 up.  Two more pars on hole 7 by Jeff and Joe extended the lead to 3 strokes with 2 holes left.  A push on hole 8 meant the lead was 3 strokes going into hole #9.  Joe and Jeff finished the deal with 2 pars and the championship.  Final Stats:  Jeff St Gelais shot another 37 with 7 pars.  Jeff is just a money player!!  Joe was solid with 5 pars, including all 3 par threes.  Dave shot a 43 with 5 pars.  Gerry came in at 45 with 2 pars.  Jeff and Joe are the only team to win multiple titles in the last 14 years.
