Forest Park Walking Tour Draws Record Crowd
Submitted by Sharon Zankel
Linda Holcomb of Pittstown described the work she and her husband, Drew, have done to restore the Holcomb family plot during Brunswick’s Fourteenth Annual Forest Park Walking Tour on October 26. The tour, presented by Brunswick Historian Sharon Zankel and the Brunswick Historical Society, this year drew a record crowd of 500 from the Capital District and beyond.

The 22-acre Forest Park Cemetery, organized in 1897, stood neglected for over three decades before the Town of Brunswick acquired the property in accordance with NYS Town Law and initiated restoration efforts. The Holcomb plot holds the graves of Troy pharmacist George Washington Holcomb who served in the Civil War, his wife, and several of their descendants. The cemetery’s design has been attributed to the notable landscape architect Garnet Douglass Baltimore.
Editor’s note: The Holcombs who gave this presentation were unable to determine if their ancestor is related to the George Holcomb whose diary appears every week in this paper.
