Berlin XC Girls Are Class C Champions

Douglas Makes States On Boys Side

A few days later than expected, due to a storm, the Berlin cross country team competed at sectionals held at Saratoga Spa State Park. It was worth the wait.

The boys started the day off with Collin Douglas leading the way by qualifying for states. Collin is the first boy since 2011 to go to states.

Overall the team ran strong, finishing fifth. Jack Flowers finished his last race with a new personal record of 18:30 and Malachi Ritter saved his best for the last race, setting a new personal record of 19:34.

The girls are the 2019 Section 2 Class D Champions and will be representing Berlin at States.

The girls were led by Elsie Corbett who finished 5th overall. The trio of Hailey Beckwith, Brady Hills and Sadie Giumarra locked the win by finishing seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. Beckwith set a new personal record with a time of 20:53.

Sam Rokjer finished out the top five for Berlin, sealing the victory with a hard run race.

The Berlin Girls XC program had finished runner up six times in Section 2 history and for the first time brought home the Section 2 crown. Collin and the Varsity Girls XC team will compete at States on November 16.

Congratulations to the entire team for a very successful season! Congratulations to everyone involved in the cross country program.

Hoosick Falls Central’s Collin Macdonald finished eleventh at the meet.
