New Lebanon Girls Soccer Advances To Finals

November 8, 2019 By steve bradley

Class D Girls Semifinal Play

Germantown ……1…. 0 1

New Lebanon …..0…. 1 1

New Lebanon wins 3-1 in tie-breaker penalty kicks.

The New Lebanon Tigers hopped on a bus and headed west on the Thruway to Fonda last Saturday to play a sectional semifinal game against Germantown.

The number one seeded Tigers had all they could handle with the number five seeded Clippers.

Germantown held the Tigers scoreless in the first half while putting one of their own on the board.

The second half was an exact reversal when NL’s Emily Schafer scored unassisted to tie the game and Germantown couldn’t get the ball in the goal, sending the game into overtime.

After two overtime periods the game was still a stalemate. At this point the tiebreaker becomes penalty kicks. New Lebanon was able to outscore Germantown 3-1 in the kicks and advance to the Class D finals. NL’s Brianna Shuhart had 15 saves, while Germantown’s Kaitlyn Stagno had 13.

The finals were held Wednesday evening in Mechanicville. This was past the Eastwick Press deadline. We will be at the game and will have the score and pictures in next weeks edition..
