Partridgeberry (Mitchella repens) is a native evergreen creeping vine that grows in the forests of eastern North America and has white flowers mid-summer. The red berries may last most of the winter if not eaten by birds or other animals. Native Americans used the herb for a variety of ailments.
This plant was covered by fallen leaves in the rich woods of Petersburgh.
