Approves 2020 Budget
By Doug La Rocque
The Town’s spending remains under the New York State Tax Cap, even if the percent figures exceed 2%. Under the complicated formula the state applies to each municipality, there is an actual dollar amount by which you can increase the total tax. Exceed it, and a local law, complete with a separate public hearing, is required. According to Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt, Stephentown stayed under that dollar amount, albeit by a very small margin.
According to the Supervisor, there were a number of “tweaks” in the budget, including the town’s transfer station, but overall, no major changes from past years. He did tell The Eastwick Press the Board was searching for a way to open the Town Hall to the public in some typical business hours, but could not come up with the monies to fund a new position. He did want to let town residents know there is someone there from almost all departments every Wednesday evening, and they are available to discuss various issues.

Supervisor Eckhardt said the Town is accepting letters of intent or resumes for any of the yearly appointed positions. You can send them to the Town Hall or email to the Town Clerk.
The Supervisor, Board members and all town officials also wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
