Luke Breaks Another Record

For five years Luke Hoag has been collecting letters to Santa to turn into the Macy’s Department Store on Believe Day, which fell this year on Friday, December 6. For each letter turned in, Macy’s contributes $2 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The children they serve are fighting for their lives, and their families are doing everything that they can to help them in their battles.

Several years ago Luke received just such a wish, and he has been helping others to get their wishes ever since.

Last year, Luke smashed his old record, taking 77,000 letters to the Macy’s store at the Colonie Center.  Many thought that was a number that could not be topped.  Not Luke however, as this year he delivered approximately 84,000, worth about $168,000 to the foundation.

This is no longer just a Hoosick Falls effort, as Luke receives letters from all 50 states and several countries.  Locally, the Tamarac Schools presented Luke with 7,680 letters they collected on his behalf last week.

Speaking with The Eastwick Press, Luke said it felt great to be able to accomplish so much once again, and he wanted to thank all those who wrote letters and helped in so many other ways. He said “it’s part of making sure everyone can dream big.”
