Merle Ramsey

Warsaw, VA – Merle Church Weaver Ramsey, age 91, died on November 24, 2019 at Orchard Assisted Living in Warsaw, VA, following a long illness.

Merle was born on May 12, 1928, and lived in Berlin, NY for 19 years. She was the daughter of the late Jessie Church and Florence (Feathers) Church.

A graduate of the Berlin High School in 1945, she married the late Richard Weaver in 1946. They were married for 41 years and had two children, Ilene and the late Allen Weaver. In 1988, she married James Ramsey, who passed in Northport, FL in 2018. Merle moved to Tappahannock, VA to live with her daughter, and then on to assisted living in Warsaw, VA.

Merle loved to read, travel, shop and play cards. She worked for many employers in her life, including the Petersburgh Town Library, Petersburgh Supervisor and Tax Collector, sold Avon products and was also employed by Gundrum’s Sawmill and New York State Parks and Recreation at the Cherry Plain site. She belonged to the Home Bureau and Petersburgh Civic Council.

Merle was pre-deceased by her son Allen Weaver and grandson Michael Weaver.

She is survived by her daughter Ilene Bly (Ed) of Virginia, three grandchildren, Ed Bly (Diane), Bonita Harris (Jeff) and Matthew Weaver, daughter-in-law Linda Weaver, four great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. She also had four stepchildren, Richard Ramsey of Florida, Karen and Ann Marie of New York and Daniel of Georgia.

A date for services and burial is yet to be announced.
