Holly Red
There are a few native species of Holly (Ilex) living in the Northeast United States. This one, found in the wet Petersburgh woods on November 26, may be Winterberry (Ilex verticillata).
The berries are attractive to wildlife, but poisonous to humans. After two feet of snow fell Thanksgiving weekend, the berries were eaten.
