Ice Rain on Monday, December 30, mostly at higher elevations and wind gusts over 50 miles per hour, created some minor damage and power outages. One of the first to lose the juice was Grafton, where a tree took out a power line on Babcock Lake Road. National Grid crews had the power restored in about two hours.

High wind gusts brought down trees around eastern and central parts of Rensselaer County, closing many roads until crews were able to clear the highways, big and small. One of the hardest hit areas was northern Columbia County, where mid-afternoon saw a multitude of accidents along the Berkshire Spur section of the NYS Thruway. Only minor injuries were reported, as fire crews from both Columbia and Rensselaer County worked with NYS Troopers to rescue the injured and clear the highway. New Lebanon Town Supervisor Meg Robertson declared a State of Emergency, which lasted well into Monday evening, because many roads were impassable.
