Two Village Men Perish In Schaghticoke Crash
By Doug La Rocque
The collision between two vehicles on NYS Route 67 in Schaghticoke on Friday morning, January 24, resulted in two Hoosick Falls residents being pronounced dead at the scene, and a third person airlifted to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.
According to a NYS Police press release, a preliminary investigation has determined that an uninvolved motor vehicle attempted to pass 44-year old Daniel Taber as he operated his 2008 Pontiac G6 westbound on State Route 67.
Taber sped up and the uninvolved motor vehicle was unable to complete the pass, subsequently returning to the westbound lane behind Taber’s vehicle.
Taber entered a curve in the roadway and was unable to maintain his lane of travel. He then exited the northern shoulder, striking a mailbox. He reentered the roadway, crossing into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2010 Toyota Corolla operated by 49-year old Paul DeMarco. Mr. DeMarco had been traveling eastbound on State Route 67 when the vehicles collided. State police identified the other deceased individual as 41-year old Michael Foster.
The accident occurred just before 7 am, and according to Troopers, all three men were on their way to work at the time. Both Mr. Taber and Mr. Foster were employed by G.A Bove of Mechanicville, while Mr. Demarco works for the Southwest Vermont Supervisor Union in Bennington as an Associate Director of Special Education.
