No War With Iran
To The Editor:
As a military veteran from Hoosick Falls, who served in Vietnam with the Marines, I’m writing today to express my opposition to President Trump’s reckless escalation with Iran. President Trump unilaterally ordered the assassination of an Iranian government official, putting US troops and innocent civilians troops at risk, and he took this action without seeking Congressional approval.
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper recently said the administration “is not seeking a war with Iran, but we are prepared to finish one.” With all due respect to the secretary, we haven’t finished a war since 1991. We should be focused on ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, not starting new conflicts.
A war with Iran would be catastrophic and nobody would benefit except war profiteers and hardline extremists on both sides. I was glad to see the House take action to restrain this dangerous President, and now the Senate needs to follow suit. That’s why I believe [your Senators] must reassert their constitutional war powers authority and prevent an impeached president from launching a new endless war.
Sincerely,
John Ferrari
