Sheriff Russo Is Sworn In For Second And Final Term
With his wife Amy holding the Bible, Rensselaer County Sheriff Pat Russo was sworn into office for another four-year term on Friday morning, December 27. Following the ceremony, Sheriff Russo said “I can say with confidence the Department is better equipped and better trained than at any time in its history.”

The Sheriff spoke with pride about many highlights from his first four years in office, including more community involvement on the part of officers and deputies, the Safe Child Program and Senior Safe Program, Active Shooter Training in schools, businesses and churches, Drug Take Back Days and the fact that all deputies are now trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) so as to provide initial medical care upon their arrival at a scene.
He also said, “over the past four years, the Sheriff’s Office has generated $16 million in revenue from housing federal inmates, thus relieving a tax burden on the citizens of the County.” He praised those around him, indicating “all of these accomplishments would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of my command staff, officers, deputies and our civilian support staff.”
These will be the Sheriff’s final four years in office, as he said he does not plan to seek a third term.
