Sweet Treats
By Amy Modesti
Valentine’s Day brings roses, chocolate candies, romantic dinners, and 50 cent ice cream cones from Stewart’s Shops – and – home-made chocolate covered strawberries from the Berlin Free Town Library.
On Valentine’s Day, the Berlin Free Town Library hosted its annual fundraiser to sell these delicious treats, with the proceeds from sales to benefit the library’s 2020 fundraising campaign. It took the library trustees four hours last Thursday to dip all the strawberries, purchased from Hannaford in West Sand Lake, in Ghirardelli chocolate.

These delicacies were then packaged in decorative boxes ready to be sold at the library and to employees at Taconic Plastics.
Some came to the library to purchase a box, and the strawberries also sold well at Taconic Plastics. The library staff plans to offer unsold strawberries at the library at a discounted price while continuing to raise funds.
Searching For Guidance
The Berlin Free Town Library is experiencing turnover of its Board of Trustees. Three of the trustees stepped down at the end of last year and the library needs new trustees to join its team. Anyone interested in becoming a trustee, contact the Berlin Free Town Library during the winter hours for more information.
Some of the library’s major goals for 2020 include adding more programs to bring in more library patrons, and welcome more area teenagers to the library to socialize, hang out, and take part in community events. These goals can’t be reached without support from Town of Berlin residents and the entire community.
The staff of the Berlin Free Town Library hope you had a Happy Valentine’s Day!
