Fall: George Gets Back To Business

Saturday, September 25, 1847: Some rainy. Today we put up our hogs to fat and this afternoon I and my two sons rode over to Miller Adams for Wm P. Van Rensselaer had advertised his mill for sale at public vendue for rent but no sale and it turned to an anti-rent meeting. Mr. Pepper from Albany addressed the meeting.
Monday: Today I worked on the highway and today John F. went to Pittsfield with a one horse wagon and carried eleven bushels apples.
Sunday, October 3: Today I and my family all but my son Geo P. went to the Chapel to meeting. Elder Haven preached, and after meeting we went to the river where Elder Sweet from the other church baptised 21 persons, a good part females and mostly children. E. C. Hughes stays and son Charles stays with us tonight.
Monday: This forenoon I helped E. C. Hughes gather ten bushels of apples that I gave him
Thursday: Today I and John F. picked winter apples and today Geo P. took the two horse pleasure wagon and carried his two sisters to Pittsfield to the fair. I let him have one dol, Geo P. paid up all back postages to Bull’s post office 31 cts.
Friday: Today I took my one horse wagon and carried apples over to Geo W. Glass factory and sold four bushels to Glass’s workmen.
Wednesday: We finished fanning up our buckwheat on our Rodgers farm, about 25 bushels in all. I carried two bushels of buckwheat to Adams Mill and got ground for hog feed. From there I went to Johnson Brown’s to see if I could hire his son Chester but said Brown was not to home.
Friday: This forenoon I took my two horse team and moved Orra Holcomb from Nathan Runnals to Wm. Doty’s house and for the moving him he agreed to pay me one dol and 50 cts and this afternoon I and John F. drew in three loads shocks corn and today Geo P. and Ezra Sackett worked for Hiram Newton in the way of changing works
