Stephentown accepted both Spectrum and Consolidated Communications cable television franchises into its town at the Monday, March 16 meeting. Supervisor Larry Eckhardt reduced the agenda due to the coronavirus restrictions and precautions.
Under the franchise agreement, a 3% fee is attached to each customer’s bill, which is funneled back to the town. Despite the lack of knowledge of potential funds headed their way, Supervisor Eckhardt ensured there would be transparency and that Stephentown would benefit from these fees by upgrading the town’s communications measures.
Transfer Station To Remain Open
After some careful consideration, the town board decided it was best to keep the transfer station open, while maintaining the health and safety of the attendants and community members.
Users are asked not to enter the building, as social distancing is important to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. They are asked to meet attendants on the front porch if a receipt or other support is needed. Attendants will be wearing gloves, and more surgical/food-grade gloves will be purchased and provided to the attendants in the near future.
