On The Rocks
Hedwig’s Fringeleaf moss (Hedwigia ciliata) grows on dry rock in the sun or shade in the area woods. This photo captures the native moss when it is wet. Mosses can look very different when wet versus dry.
They absorb water and hold it like a sponge, releasing it slowly to the ground and air.
