Village Tentative Budget Calls For Slight Tax Hike
By Doug La Rocque
When all the adding, subtracting and calculating was done, Hoosick Falls Village Mayor Rob Allen has brought forth a tentative budget that calls for a tax hike of 1.46% or in real money terms, slightly more than 11 cents per thousand of assessed valuation. This year’s current budget contained no tax increase. The new tax rate would be 7.74%.
Overall the 3.5 million dollar budget will need $135,000 from the unexpended fund balance to bring expenditures in line with revenues. The Water District shows both a drop in expenditures and revenue, as does the Sewer District Budget. The general fund outlay is up roughly $86,000 with revenue anticipated to climb about $78,000. Nearly $39,000 of the general fund hike is from the Highway Department Budget, with increases in payroll, fuel, vehicle repair and street maintenance.
There will be a budget hearing at the Tuesday, April 14 meeting of the Village Board, with copies of the budget available for viewing on the village’s website. This meeting will be conducted on line for members of the public. Please see Mayor Allen’s press release on page 6 for more details.
Please note this is a tentative budget, subject to public comment as well as proposed changes by the village board.
