Letter To The Editor

April 18, 2020 By steve bradley

When We Are Not Looking

To the Editor:

As we try to navigate through perhaps the most difficult time in the last 30 years our New York State Legislature is at it again. They are once again trying to impose more restrictions on lawful gun ownership. The continued push by the downstate liberal lawmakers, backed by a controlling governor, is again proposing more draconian laws on sportsman and lawful gun owners.

The following are a few of their rules:

1). Any gun owner will need $1 million in liability insurance – (Insurance companies love this.) Senate bill s2857a

2). You must have a NYS hunting license to purchase a gun. (Another money grab by the state.)

3). You must pass a NYS accuracy test. (Wonder how much that will cost. Imagine the backlog!) both of these provisions are part of  Senate bill s1412

4.) You must prove safe storage for guns. Senate bill s2450a

5). No firearms for prizes in any games of chance. Assembly bill a1413

6). No lead shot in any state forest lands or management areas. (Imagine the amount of game lost with this.) Assembly bill a00703

7). This is the worst. All schools will be prohibited from marksmanship and shooting training programs. (This is the best training for youths with safety the main objective.) Assembly bill a1007

If you are as upset as we are, please contact:

Assemblyman Jake Ashby – Ashby@nyassesmbly.gov

Senator Betty Little – Little@nysenate.gov

Senator Daphne Jordan – Jordan@nysenate.gov

Yours truly

Bruce J. Patire
