Wood Frogs Gather
After the snow melted and the temperature rose to around 50 degrees last Friday, Wood Frogs (Lithobates sylvaticus) returned to local venal pools to breed. This couple (female below with protruding egg sac) are in the position called amplexus, when the male hugs the female tightly to expel her eggs.

Females can discharge up to a thousand eggs. This couple is floating above the eggs that have been laid and fertilized by other frog partners.
