Wednesday, January 26, 1848: I continue lame with salt rheum and continue to take Jones drops and pills. Today Geo P. took the two horse team and carried his two sisters to Pittsfield to brother F. Jay Wylie’s on a visit. It was quite good wheeling and some rainy towards night. I carried wood into the wood house a spell this afternoon, but it was painful to my feet.
Friday: I continue taking Jones medicine. Today Geo P. and sisters returned from Pittsfield and their cousin Wylie with them on a visit.
Sunday: Today Geo P. took the pung and fetched the wife of brother Simeon Wylie and she poulticed my wife’s foot with charcoal and corn meal and my salt rheum but it only irritated and we took it off.
Monday: Today the wife of John Russell came and applied a poultice of onions roasted, it made us both easy.
Tuesday, Feb. 1: This morning a snow storm a foot deep by daylight and then stopped snowing. Today Geo P. went up town and carried boosums and left to Wm. Kittles for him to carry to Troy. I continue taking Jones drops and my wife continues lame with a swelling on her foot.
Wednesday: This morning at six o’clock Chauncey Baldwin took the one horse sleigh and carried Geo P. and his trunk of clothes and Geo P. took with him 65 dollars. He went to Canaan Depot and the cars had gone but not out of sight but too late to go today to Bridgeport and Geo P. returned three miles in the cutter with Chauncey to Mr. Spires to stay tonight for to start tomorrow morning for New York City. On this evening Chauncey Baldwin took the two horse sleigh and carried my two daughters and Cornelia Wylie to the debate near Gilbert’s school house. Doctor Adams called and pronounced the irrecipilous on my wife’s foot.
Thursday: Today I continued taking Jones medicine and it has quite an effect and my wife continues lame and her foot is painful. Today mild weather and pleasant.
