Town Boards Meet Virtually
By Miranda Sehl and Doug La Rocque
With the area’s town halls still closed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, both the Brunswick Town Board and the Planning Board held their respective meetings using a digital platform, the planning board with zoom and the town board broadcasting its meeting over Facebook live.
The Town Board declared no pressing issues that had to be dealt with at its Thursday, May 14 meeting, simply approving minutes and paying the bills. It also passed three resolutions, the first changing the 2020 Water and Sewer rolls to account for errors and corrections. Next the board accepted the dedication of the completed water line infrastructure and access easement from the owner of the Duncan Meadows Planned Development District. Last on the agenda was a resolution to approve the purchase and sale of equipment for the Highway Department.
On Thursday, May 7, the Planning Board met for the first time in two months, its previous three meetings all having been canceled. None of the major projects before the board, such as the construction of an Aldi’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Wendy’s, the new housing project planned for land on Brunswick Road (NYS Route 2) or the Verizon Cell Tower Project were on the docket, nor were there any public hearings. Instead, the board approved three waivers of subdivisions and scheduled public hearings for June 4 on the Mickel Hill Properties minor subdivision and a request to build an accessory apartment on a Bott Lane property.
The board plans to meet again using the Zoom platform on May 21, with a revision to the Ace Hardware complex on Hoosick Road and the Verizon Cell Tower proposal, among the items on the agenda.
