A Little Help Please?
By Doug La Rocque
Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers were called to Lewis Hollow Road in Petersburgh just after sunup on Tuesday, May 5, for a report of a tractor-trailer stuck in the roadway. The first question was what such a large vehicle was doing on that road anyway, as it is a steep dirt road just slightly more than one lane wide, with a weight restricted bridge to boot. The answer, according to the driver, who was out of Tacoma, Washington, was he got lost trying to find El Hannon’s Nursery on Route 22 in North Petersburgh. Apparently while trying to turn around, he got the rear wheels of the trailer hung up on a stone ledge. According to investigating deputies, this occurred about 2:30 am, but they never received the call until after 6 am.
Getting the truck out of there was no easy task, as it required two heavy duty tow trucks from T&T towing, one to lift the trailer and another to pull from the front. While there was damage to the property and the truck, there were no injuries, except perhaps to the driver’s pride in his ability to handle a big rig.
Reminds me of the 1964 song by the Willis Brothers, “Give me 40 acres and I’ll turn this rig around, it’s the easiest way that I’ve found.”
