Capital District Not Ready To Re-Open
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this week that three areas of New York State have met the criteria to begin a phase 1 re-opening from his Pause New York Executive Order, that basically shut down all but essential business and banned most public gatherings. One area is the Mohawk Valley, which includes Schoharie and Montgomery counties. Not included was the Capital District, of which Rensselaer County is a part. The governor said the Capital District has only met five of the seven components of his re-opening criteria.
County Executive McLaughlin expressed his disappointment with the Governor’s decision, saying he believes measured reopening is possible in the region. He said other elected officials in the region largely agree with that approach.
