Hoosick Falls

Crash Injures One

The Saturday afternoon accident on High Street (Route 22) at the intersection of Munsell Street in the Village of Hoosick Falls resulted in the driver of this vehicle being transferred from the scene by the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad with non-life threatening injuries. When the Hoosick Falls Fire Department arrived on the scene they immediately called the North Hoosick Fire Department for the extrication tools and that department’s training in how to use them. It was a difficult extrication and took almost an hour to free the man.

Members of the North Hoosick Fire Department push back the roof of the Hyundai Elantra to free the driver of the vehicle. The firemen covered the driver with a blanket to protect him from debris. Photo by Steve Bradley.

The accident happened when Richard “Digger” O’Dell of Hoosick Falls was traveling southbound on High Street and a New York registered, older model, full sized Chevy pickup truck, also traveling southbound, came upon the van and was unable to stop. After hitting the back of the van the pickup driver then veered into the northbound lane and struck the Elantra. The impact was so loud that resident Barb Wrubleski, who lives 100 feet from the impact site, said “I thought it hit the porch of our house.” No one else was injured in the crash.
