Local Law To Protect Emergency First Responders Introduced
Rensselaer County Legislator Bruce Patire of Eagle Bridge has introduced a local law for the full legislature to consider at its August meeting. The legislation states Emergency First Responders play a critical role in protecting people and property in the event of fires, natural and man-made disasters, medical emergencies, terrorist and other criminal acts, and further states it is critical to ensure that these responders are protected from harassment and interference as they perform essential duties on behalf of the public.

The proposed law states anyone found guilty of such interference or harassment faces up to 15 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $1000. If approved it would become law upon the approval of County Executive Steve McLaughlin and filing with the NYS Department of State.
Legislator Patire represents the five towns in Eastern Rensselaer County.
