Fire and Rescue units were kept busy in Grafton on Monday afternoon, July 20, with two separate accidents only about an hour apart. The first occurred near the intersection with Josh Hall Pond Road, where NY State Police say the westbound driver attempted to avoid an animal in the road, swerved and lost control, striking a utility pole. The accident caused a short term power outage in the area. The driver was not injured.

Just as the Grafton Fire Department was preparing to clear the scene, a call came in for another mishap, this time involving two cars, at the entrance to the Grafton Lakes State Park. In all, there were eight people between the two vehicles, and both the Grafton Rescue Squad and the Mohawk Ambulance Service were called to the scene, though no one ended up needing transport. The cause of this crash is under investigation.
