Search For Missing Man Ends In Tragedy

Statement by Police Chief Bob Ashe

The Hoosick Falls Police Department has completed its investigation of the search for Mr. Edward Taylor who resided in the Village of Hoosick Falls. Mr. Taylor had passed away prior to being located.

Numerous agencies and departments assisted in the search which started Saturday morning July 25 at about 9 am.  The command headquarters was established at the Village Highway garage and was fully staffed by 1:30 pm. An aerial search by the New York State Police was requested immediately along with search dog teams and water rescue.

As manpower from numerous fire and police agencies began to arrive a ground search was deployed.

As the day passed, a determination was made that the search might continue into the night. New York State Forest Rangers, under the command of Captain John Solan, were consulted and his office prepared a night search.

Sadly, at around 10:30 pm, members of Rensselaer County Search and Rescue team, making a final sweep of a requested area, discovered Mr. Taylor’s body along Route 22, about two miles south of the village. Mr. Taylor was 94-years old

Although the search did not turn out the way I had hoped, the Village of Hoosick Falls would like to thank the dedication and commitment of the search teams that generously gave up their time and resources to assist.

In a time that looks like the world is upside down, the men and women of numerous organizations gathered together to search and hope that they could find a person in need.

I am proud to have been a part of this search and, on behalf of the residents of Hoosick Falls, we thank each and every one of you.

To the family of Mr. Taylor, I wish we could have located your loved one sooner. Each individual that participated in the search did such with the determination, strength and hope that the outcome would be different.

We give you our condolences and love during this trying time.

The following organizations who have shown that people do care and believe that we can make the world a better place, God Bless each and every one of you and again, thank you.
