Unnoticed in the Woods
Eastern Spotted Coralroot (Corallorhiza maculata) is a native plant that is extremely rare in Rensselaer County, according to local scientist Dr. David Hunt.

This one was standing by itself on a slope in the Petersburgh woods. The plant lacks chlorophyll and lives off the mycelium of fungi. It has been used as an herb and was the subject of a poem by Robert Frost called On Going Unnoticed.
