What’s Summer Without Ice Cream?

by Doug La Rocque

The Grafton Summer Fun program wrapped up its four week run on Friday, August 21 with an ice cream party for all participants (a few adults snuck in too). Program Coordinator Noelle Goyer said everything went smoothly, with all CDC guidelines in place, including taking everyone’s temperatures every day. There were no health related issues or high temperatures reported. The program averaged between 25 and 30 children a day from Grafton and Petersburgh.

Several state, county and local officials were on hand to give out ice cream sundaes, all donated by Stewart’s Shops. They are, from left to right, Grafton Town Councilman Steve Beaudry, Assemblyman Jake Ashby, Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Bourgault, Rensselaer County Sheriff Pat Russo and County Legislator Jeff Wysocki. It was held this year at the former Grafton Elementary School, where there was plenty of room both inside and outdoors to “spread out.” Joining in Grafton Summer Fun was the Rensselaer County Department for Youth’s “Grab and Go” food program, which handed out free lunches and snacks for any child in the county whose parents made their way to the former school to pick them up. That was also well attended.
