Schools Announce Re-Opening Plans And Parent Meetings

by Doug La Rocque

On Friday, August 7, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that as of now, schools in New York State can re-open for in person classes, or a hybrid of on line and in person. The as of now portion of his decision is subject to change if the state’s COVID-19 infection rate starts to climb again. The Governor also said the format for the coming school year’s learning process is up to each individual district, but he required they have at least three meetings with parents in their district.

To that effect, all four districts in our coverage area have announced plans for on line meetings. The Brunswick District (Tamarac) is conducting those meetings this week, and plans a virtual parent/caregiver meeting on Tuesday, August 18 for students with disabilities. Please see the website, brunswickcsd.org for more information on this meeting and the specific school opening plans.

Berlin Central Schools

BCS plans its first parent meeting for Thursday, August 13 at 6 pm. Other meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, August 18 at 6 pm and Thursday, August 20 at 1 pm. Details on how to join the August 13 meeting are on the District’s website, as are links to its re-opening plans. Information on how to join the next two meetings will be announced shortly. The District will also record the meetings and make them available to the community for those unable to attend.

New Lebanon Central Schools

The District has scheduled its three parent meetings to take place virtually on Friday, August 14 at 1 pm, Tuesday, August 18 at 4 pm and Thursday, August 20 at 7 pm. The information on how to join these meetings is on the District’s website, along with its re-opening plans.

Parents are asked to email questions ahead of time to an address also on the website.

As in Berlin, a recording of these meetings will be made and available to watch by those unable to attend.

Hoosick Falls Central School

The District will hold its next meeting about re-opening on Wednesday, August 19 at 6:30 pm. The District recently completed a parent school reopening survey as well. Its current re-opening plan is posted on the District website at hoosickfallscsd.org.
