Competition Heats Up Heading Into Playoffs

by Kevin Weeden

Dewstomper Golf Notes:

Every Wednesday morning a group of guys, any where from 15-25 gather to play in the “dew.” With an approximate 8:00 start, there is a wide range of golfing abilities that show up. Using the a modified Stableford system, 1 point for bogey, 2 points for a par, and 4 points for an eagle, and a handicap based on how you play, the pace of play is brisk. Two hours is the anticipated pace of play. Bogey is the worst score you can take, so play keeps moving. All prizes paid out that day. Results from August 26 (18 players):  1st place Leaon Rosko plus 5;  2nd place Randy Hall plus 4; 3rd place Rick Harrington and Cooch plus 3. Closest to the Pin on hole 3: Bill Goodwin. Come on over and join the fun. Done by 10 am.

Monday Night Duffers League Recap

In flight A, it looks to be a 2-team race for one remaining playoff spot. Kevin Weeden and Peter Martin II, along with Nick Diotte and Dave Jones have led the division from early on in the year and look to have locked up 2 playoff spots. Rik Seiler and Larry Donovan have had a strong second half, losing only one match and have put themselves at the top of Division A. The race for the 4th spot is Bob Shoemaker/Jack Daiugneault and defending champion Joe Gerwin/Jeff St Gelais. They had the same number of points heading into week 17. They play each other week 18. Only one will move on to the post season.

In Division B, Garth Duclos/Henry Rose are in the playoffs by winning the 1st half. Dale Dearstyne and Jeff Hull have pulled ahead for the 2nd half lead. The team of Harrington/Pallo/Ogert have been hanging around in 2nd place. Joel Frisino/Dave Putnam sit in 3rd place and play Dale and Jeff in the final week. Tom Condon Sr/Keith Shannon along with Tim Wiley/Brian Holbritter hope to finish strong and earn their way into the playoffs.

Monday Week Sixteen Highlights

Bret Seiler shot 33 with 5 pars, 2 birdies and an eagle on hole #8. He had a net score of 31. Darryl Lee (net 30) and Mike Marpe (net 33 with a par on all 3 par threes) each had 7 pars.  Dave Clark tied his season best with 4 pars. Ed Powers tripled his birdie total with 2 birdies. Gerry Taber had a net score of 34 with 3 pars. Dave Jones had 5 pars and teammate Nick Diotte had 4 pars and a birdie. Dan O’Rourke had 4 pars and a birdie. Jack Daigneault (net 31) and Bob Shoemaker combined for 11 pars. Larry Donovan tied his season best with 3 pars. Rik Seiler shot 34 with 4 pars and 3 birdies.

Monday Skins Results (week 16)

Hole #1 was rolled. No birdies in either flight. Darryl Lee had the closest to the pin but could not convert that into a birdie. Both skins pots are over $200 and there will be a winner next week.

Monday Closest to the Pin Results (week 16)

Hole #1 → Darryl Lee 11ft  7in (2-time winner)  Hole #3 → Ed Powers 13ft 10in   Hole #9 → Rik Seiler 5ft  6in (2-time winner)

Wednesday Night Caddyshack League Recap

With one week left, the standings have tightened in Flight A.  With 23 points per week, after 19 weeks, there is a total of 437 possible points. Division A has come down to 3 teams for 2 spots. The leaders, Josh Magisano and Matt Brownell, have 237 pts. They had 2 huge weeks and only one slipup against the Greene boys. After a 9-week winning streak, Adam Fedler and Jacob Trinkle lost big to Matt and Josh and currently have 236 pts. With the strength of their 3-week winning streak and a couple loses by the top 2 teams and steady play all year, Clint Brock Jr and Al Brock find themselves right in the thick of things. They sit at 3rd place with 235.5 pts. Wow, it should be a fun final week as only 2 teams make the playoffs. The most intriguing matchup is Frank Mulvihill (HFCS single season leader with 15 wins in one season) vs Adam Fedler (league leader in individual points). In Flight B, there is a little more separation.  The top team, Dave Crossman and Tim Clarke (3 wins in a row) have 222 points. The second place team of Scott Hutton and Tom Bushee (3 losses in a row) have 219 points and are 7.5 points clear of the 3rd place team. The contenders, John Newkirk and Paul Demais, have won 3 out of 4 weeks and Leo Plante and Steve Maine have won 4 straight weeks. With 23 points out there, I guess you never know.

Wednesday Week Eighteen Highlights

The course played tough as only 2 teams netted under par. Tim Clarke shot a net score of 32 and won 6.5 points. Rick Crosier had a 37, net 34, with 5 pars and a birdie. The Brock family had the low team net, 68. Al had 5 pars, while grandson Clint Jr. had 7 pars and a net score of 32. Tom Starr parred all 3 par threes on his way to winning 6.5 points.  Matt Brownell shot 38, winning 6 points with his 5 pars and birdie. His teammate, Josh Magisano had 4 pars and a birdie, winning 5.5 points. Frank Mulvihill shot 37 with 4 pars and 2 birdies. Teammate, Kevin Weeden, shot 39 with 4 pars and a birdie.

Wednesday Closest to the Pin Results (week 18)

Hole #1 → Paul Demasi  Hole #3 → Jim Votra   Hole #9 → Kevin Greene
