by Kevin Weeden

Dewstomper Golf Notes

Every Wednesday morning a group of guys, any where from 15-25 gather to play in the “dew.” With an approximate 8 am start, there is a wide range of golfing abilities that show up. Using the a modified stableford system, 1 point for bogey, 2 points for a par, and 4 points for an eagle, and a handicap based on how you play, the pace of play is brisk.  2 hours is the anticipated pace of play.  Bogey is the worst score you can take, so play keeps moving. All prizes paid out that day. Results from 9/9 (13 players):  1st place  Gerry Cutler and Daniel Plus 3;  3rd place Al Brock, Randy Hall, Bob Cucinello, Leon Rosko Plus 2, Closest to the Pin on hole 3: Gerry Cutler 24’8”. Results for 9/16 (14 players)  1st place Gerry Cutler Plus 6 back-to-back champion), 2nd place Dale Dearstyne Plus 3, 3rd place Rick Harrington Plus 2, Closest to the Pin Hole #3  Dale Dearstyne 10’6”. Come on over and join the fun. Done by 10 am.

Wednesday Night Caddyshack League Recap

Clint Brock Jr. and Mr. Al Brock won the title this past week. After barely getting in on the last day with an 8 foot putt for birdie on hole #9 by Clint Brock Jr., Al and Clint defeated single season champs Josh Magisano and Matt Brownell. In Division B, Dave Crossman (10 handicap) and Tim Clarke (13) defeated Tom Bushee (12) and Scott Hutton (14). Tom came out firing, winning the first 3 holes with 3 pars. Tim and Scott split the first 3 holes. Scott had a nice par on hole 2. Dave and Tom split hole 4, with Tim winning. A par and bogey gave Dave and Tim 2 wins on hole 5 and evened the match at 5-5. With 7 being the best score out of the foursome, Dave and Tim took a 6.5-5.5 lead. Tim picked up another win on hole 7. The match now stood at 8-6. After Dave won and Scott won, the match was 9-7 with one left. Tim Clarke finished the deal with a nice par on the tough hole 9. Dave Crossman had a great net score of 33. In the Finals, Clint and Al Brock were giving up 17 strokes.  After Tim and Dave took 1.5 points on hole 1, Clint EAGLED hole 2 and Al birdied hole 2. This cut off 6 strokes from the 17 they were giving. Al won a full point with his par on hole 3. Dave won back to back full points on holes 4 and 5 with a stroke.  Tim and Al split these holes. Both players split hole #6, which left the match at 6.5-5.5 in Dave and Tim’s favor. The 17 strokes were cut to 3. Clint birdied hole 7 and Al parred it. The match now swung in their favor 7.5-5.5 and all the strokes were gone. Al birdied hole 8 and Clint parred it. All four players parred hole 9. Clint Brock Jr shot 2-under 33, but lost 5-4. Dave had a net score of 29. Al won 5.5 to 3.5 with his score of 37. Their gross total of 70 was their best for the year!! Congrats to the family!!

Wednesday Week Nineteen Highlights

Half the league finished on a strong note as they were under par in the final week. Frank Mulvihill and Kevin Weeden set the mark once again. They combined for a gross 69. They are the only team in either league to gross under par (Kevin and Frank also did it from the blue tees earlier in the year.) Frank had 8 pars and a birdie. Kevin had 5 pars and 2 birdies. They tied their match 9-9. Kevin lost to the league leader in points, Adam Fedler, 5.5-3.5. Adam had a net score of 31 with 3 pars. Jacob Trinkle and Adam had the second lowest net score of the night, 66, but it wasn’t enough as they got bumped out the playoffs in the final week. Al Brock and Clint Brock Jr. tied Kevin and Frank with a net score of 65. They combined for 12 pars and 3 birdies. They won by one stroke over Terry Stacey and Rick Harrington. Rick Harrington had a net score of 30 and only won 5-4.  Like I said, 2 8-foot putts, after 19 weeks with 25 points in each week, decided the title this year!!  John Newkirk and Paul Demasi had a team net score of 65. Teammates, Tim Clarke and Dave Crossman, both finished with net scores of 33. They combined for 5 pars. Steve Maine won 6.5 pts. Rod Cameron netted 33 with 3 pars. Jim Votra shot a solid 41, net 32, with 2 par and a birdie. Mike Greene won 7.5 pts with 3 par and 2 birdies as he netted 33. Matt Brownell netted 33 with his even par, 35. He had 5 pars and 2 birdies.

Life Tidbits

Wow, that was a quick 19 weeks of golf and life. When we reflect on this craziness, hopefully we don’t lose sight of the little things. Spending time with your family is priceless
